SPITFIRES MAKE IT TWO OUT OF TWO
Kings Stanley 1 Spitfires 8
The Spitfires secured their second straight 8-1 victory to move to the top of the Mid Glos Mini League South.
Slimbridge got off to a slow start and Harry Prescott was forced to make a good save to a low shot from Kings Stanley.
Slowly the Spitfires started to take control and played some great passing football. The opening goal came from a corner. The ball found its way to the far post where Ollie Furneaux put it away.
Joe Wilcox grabbed the second with a great shot from well outside the area. Joe Oliver made it three after he bravely beat the goalkeeper to a high ball and headed it into the net. It was a sweet goal for Joe against his old team.
Slimbridge by now were well on top and they increased their lead on the stroke of half time when George Mack produced a great header from a corner which flew in off the post.
The second half saw Kings Stanley start better and the Spitfires were grateful once again to Ryan Ponting and Ethan Wait for their solid defence. Jack Matthews was now up front for Slimbridge and his constant running made life difficult for the Kings Stanley defence.
Slimbridge got their fifth with ten minutes to go. Jordan Hodges who had been playing very well all through the game hit a great shot into the corner of the net. Joe Wilcox increased the lead sson after with another tremendous effort.
Kings Stanley finally got the goal they deserved with a high shot past Harry Prescott, who could do nothing about it. This just spurred on the Spitfires though and George Mack responded straight away with a great run and shot. George completed his hat trick just before the end to confirm another great away performance.
Jordan Hodges and George Mack were named Men of the Match.
