Slimbridge Spitfires U10’s 4 Kings Stanley U10’s 3

The Spitfires produced the comeback of the season to turn a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 win and keep up the pressure at the top of the table.

Although the Spitfires started the better, they couldn’t make their advantage tell. Joe Oliver and Ollie Furneaux both went close early on. Kings Stanley began to get into the game and Harry Prescott was forced into a number of saves. He couldn’t prevent the first goal though as he was left one on one with an attacker.

Kings Stanley went two up just before half time. After the break Slimbridge and they were unlucky to go further behind when Kings Stanley broke to score to make it 3-0. The Spitfires got one back immediately when George Mack scored direct from a corner.

Chances now came and went for both sides, with Sam Crosby going close. Joe Wilcox produced some great tackling to keep the score at 3-1. With just five minutes left Jordan Hodges broke through to score. Almost from the re-start Ryan Ponting produced a great run and scored with an unstoppable shot.

It was nail-biting stuff and in the final minute, George Mack scored with a wonder shot from a corner to make it 4-3.

Man of the Match was Jordan Hodges, but it was a great team effort.
