SPITFIRES SUCCESSFUL AT SLIMBRIDGE TOURNAMENT
Spitfires Win Penalty Shoot Out Final
The Slimbridge Spitfires won their own tournament after a dramatic penalty shoot out in the final against Bristol side Bitton FC.
The Spitfires started their group in good style with a 1-0 win over Wotton Lions thanks to a Joe Oliver goal. Their next two games saw them concede last minute goals in each to register 1-1 draws. This meant they needed to beat local rivals Cam Everside to reach the semi-finals. Goals from Sam Crosbee, Jordan Hodges and two apiece from George Mack and Joe Oliver saw them to a superb 6-0 win.
The semi finals saw them up against Avon Atheltic for the third tournament in a row. The Spitfires were simply brilliant and two great goals from Ollie Furneaux saw them to a 3-0 win.
The final was a repeat of last year against champions Bitton. Both sides played some great football, but no-one could break the deadlock. It went to penalties. Slimbridge goalkeeper Harry Prescott pulled off some great saves to stop the first three Bitton kicks and it was left to Sam Crosbee to slot home the winning penalty.
