SPITFIRES GO OUT IN SEMI FINALS

The Spitfires failed to retain the trophy at the recent Stonehouse tournament, but once again they put in some impressive performances.

They were drawn in the toughest of the three groups and kicked off their campaign against Severnside. Despite dominating possession they were wasteful infront of goal and drew 0-0.

In the second match the Spitfires took on old rivals St. Marks and gained revenge for the defeat at the Slimbridge Tournament last year by winning through a Kelvin Hiles goal.

Up next were Bristol Rovers Development Centre. They had won their previous two matches by 4-0 and were a very good side. Despite this Jordan Hodges went close on two occassions before Rovers scored early in the second half. The Spitfires pushed on but that was to be the only goal of the game.

This meant that the Spitfires had to win both of their remaining matches to progress. A 2-0 win over unbeaten Eveswell B courtesy of goals from Ollie Furneaux and Ryan Ponting and a 2-1 win over Cheltenham Saracens Reds with goals from Ponting again and Jordan Hodges meant a semi-final place.

The semi-finals were a three team mini league. The Spitfires played their worst game of the tournament as they went down 4-0 to Eveswell C in the first match. In the second they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Windsor Drive. The goals from Ryan Ponting and Ollie Furneaux.

It was a great tournament and the Spitfires again did themselves proud. Well done boys.
