SPITFIRES RUNNERS UP AGAIN

The Spitfires finished runners up for the second time in two tournaments this summer. This time it was at the Castle Combe event in Wiltshire. The Spitfires were drawn in Group C and started against Corsham Jaguars. Despite taking the lead through a George Mack penalty and then dominating the game, they conceeded a last minute goal to draw 1-1.

They then took on the Pewsham whose players had all dyed their hair blue! This did not put off Slimbridge and they cruised to a 3-0 courtesy of a goal from new signing Jordan Hodges and a double from Kelvin Hiles. Next up was Chippenham Town Whites. The Spitfires again dominated the game, but couldn't get the goal and they drew 0-0.

This meant that they needed to beat Castle Combe Blacks to progress into the quarter finals. Goals from George Mack and Jordan Hodges saw them to a 2-0 win.

The quarter finals saw Slimbridge play defending champs Castle Combe Whites. Here the Spitfires produced their best performance of the day, coming from a goal behind to win 3-1, Hodges (1) and Mack (2) again were the scorers.

The semi final saw a tough draw against Chippenham A. Slimbridge took the lead through Kelvin Hiles and this looked to have been enough, however another last minute goal saw the game go into extra time and ultimately penalties. George Mack kept his cool to score and even though Ryan Pontings penalty was saved, Chippenham missed all their kicks.

The final saw the Spitfires play Chippenham Whites again. However, this time Chippenham were the better team as Slimbridge started to tire. A goal in the second half was enough to secure the trophy 1-0.
