SLIMBRIDGE SPITFIRES WIN BACK TO BACK TOURNAMENTS
Spitfires Win Malmesbury and Avon Athletic
Slimbridge Spitfires continued their impressive run of form with back to back victories in tournaments at Malmesbury and Avon Athletic.
On a windy day at Malmesbury the Spitfires produced some of their best football of the summer winning their group after wins over sides from as far away as Wales. Once into the semi-finals the Spitfires ground out a great win by 2-1, which put them into the final against Green Meadow.
In a close fought game the Spitfires came out on top thanks to a goal from Jordan Hodges.
A week later the Spitfires travelled to Bristol for the Avon Athletic tournament. Here they took on the best sides from Bristol. After cruising to five straight group game wins, the Spitfires came up against the hosts B team in the semi-finals. A nerve racking 0-0 draw saw the game go to penalties, where the Spitfires kept their nerve to win 3-2.
After a 1-1 draw in the final, it was another penalty shoot-out. With the score at 7-7, Harry Prescott made the save which left Jordan Hodges to slot home the winner for their third tournament win of the summer.
The boys involved were George Mack, Joe Wilcox, Ryan Ponting, Ollie Furneaux, Joe Oliver, Sam Crosbee, Harry Prescott, George Gwilliams and Jordan Hodges.
