SPITFIRES LOSE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE FINAL AFTER PENALTY SHOOT-OUT
The Spitfires lost the final of the Champions League on a penalty shoot-out after a last minute goal in normal time by Higham FC sent the game into extra-time and then penalties.
Slimbridge were in the tougher of the two groups after being drawn against fellow league champions, FC Lakers and Frampton.
First up were the champs of the north FC Lakers. The Spitfires though were on great form and goals from Sam Crosby and Jordan Hodges saw them home. Frampton then beat Lakers 2-1, which meant that a draw would be good enough for the Spitfires to get to the final.
Slimbridge were on top from the start against a Frampton side which had won every single league game this season. Joe Oliver put the Spitfires ahead and then Joe Wilcox sealed the game with a fantastic shot from a short corner.
The final was to be against Higham who had knocked out Slimbridge rivals Forest Green Rovers. In a tense game the Spitfires took the lead in the second half with a goal from George Mack and looked likely to hold on until they conceded a goal from a corner with the last kick of the game.
Extra time came and went and the match went to penalties. Higham scored all there kicks and when Jordan Hodges shot unluckily hit the post, Higham were crowned champs.
The Spitfires were Sam Crosbee, Harry Prescott, Ryan Ponting, George Mack, Ollie Furneaux, Joe Oliver, Jordan Hogges and Joe Wilcox.
