Crusaders open season in style
Lydney Town U13s 0 v Slimbridge Crusaders U13s 1
Slimbridge Crusaders achieved their third victory within 8 days as they open the season in style. This was both a physically and skill demanding encounter with each side battling hard for supremacy. Crusaders defence held strong as the visiting attack found it really hard to make headway in the first half against a resolute Lydney back line. Slimbridge had created few chances and a 0-0 half time reflected this was going to be a tightly fought battle until the final whistle.
Lydney gained some confidence as the match progressed, but Crusader defenders, Dan French and Corey-Chapman-Knight showed composure and good form. Kodi Campbell held midfield with his great early season form dictating play with excellent vision. With less than ten minutes remaining captain Will Gosling beat three players as he ran from the half way line to finally strike a magnificent, unstoppable right footed low drive into the net from the edge of the penalty area. This solo effort had won the game in great style!
Slimbridge held on and the team can take much credit for the sheer physical effort - a deserved victory against a very strong Lydney team. The game was a great advert for the Gloucester Youth League football.
Man of the Match Dan French - for his wholehearted composed performance.
